The continued expansion of AI server deployments is driving sustained demand for power management semiconductors in both global and Chinese markets. As AI computing systems continue to evolve, power management ICs (PMICs) are gaining greater importance alongside GPUs and High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM), supported in part by the continued development of mature and specialized semiconductor processes.
The rapid evolution of generative AI and high-performance GPU architectures is also reshaping server power delivery. As compute-core current requirements move toward the kiloampere range, server power architectures are evolving from conventional 12 V analog power architectures toward 48 V/50 V distribution, digital power control, and vertical power delivery (VPD). PMICs serve as key components in the conversion and distribution of power within these systems, while SPS, DC-DC converters, driver ICs, and other power and control devices support the increasingly dense power architecture surrounding the compute subsystem.
Rising Power Density, Greater Demands on Power Devices
The continued increase in AI server deployments and rack-level power density is driving demand for power management, analog, driver, and peripheral control devices. Stable server operation depends on the coordinated performance of CPUs, HBM, SSDs, optical modules, thermal management components, and a large number of power and control circuits.
AI compute systems typically operate with low-voltage, high-current power delivery, placing tighter requirements on the control accuracy and response characteristics of power devices. A compute rack may contain only dozens of primary compute devices while requiring thousands of power, analog, and control components to support their operation.
The current shift in AI hardware is therefore also reshaping demand across the power semiconductor supply chain. As next-generation GPUs move into the kilowatt-class power range, server power delivery systems must handle higher current while maintaining stable operation, increasing the number and performance requirements of power management devices used within each system.
Server platforms also involve long qualification cycles and high barriers to component replacement. Once a power device has been qualified and adopted in a production platform, replacing it can require additional validation and qualification. This makes consistent device quality particularly important throughout the production lifecycle and reinforces the demand for qualified power management devices in high-end computing applications.
At the same time, the power devices supporting AI infrastructure have received less attention than the primary compute and memory components. Under high-power, high-load, and high-thermal-density operating conditions, SPS, DC-DC converters, and other power devices can become important constraints on server performance, production capacity, and operational stability. Demand from industrial automation, 5G, and other applications adds further pressure to the supply of power management semiconductors.
Production Quality Beyond Device Design
For high-end AI power devices, the manufacturing challenge extends beyond chip design and wafer fabrication. Device performance must be established through appropriate testing and validation, while production processes must maintain consistent programming, configuration, verification, and traceability.
Power devices used in AI servers may be exposed to high electrical loads, rapid changes in operating conditions, and significant thermal stress. Characteristics such as surge protection, dynamic load response, operating performance across high- and low-temperature conditions, and startup under capacitive loads can directly affect system stability.
Latent device-level defects may become more pronounced under sustained high-load operation and can contribute to system instability, including compute downtime and repeated system restarts. For this reason, standardized and high-precision programming and production control are important elements of high-volume manufacturing for advanced AI power devices. For high-end AI power devices, the manufacturing challenge extends beyond chip design and wafer fabrication. Device performance must be established through appropriate testing and validation, while production processes must maintain consistent programming, configuration, verification, and traceability.
Device programming is not simply a power-on check. It is a controlled manufacturing step within the broader quality-control process, used to apply the required firmware or configuration data and verify the programming result. Programming does not replace electrical testing or reliability qualification; rather, it complements these processes by providing consistent data loading, verification, version control, and production traceability.
Programming for High-Volume AI Power Semiconductor Manufacturing
As AI power devices move from engineering development into volume production, programming requirements extend beyond basic write operations. Production environments require programming accuracy, verification, process consistency, data management, and integration with manufacturing systems.
Acroview addresses these requirements with two programming platforms: the AP8000 universal programmer and the IPS5800S automated programming system. The two platforms support different stages of the manufacturing workflow, from flexible programming in engineering and production environments to automated high-volume manufacturing.
AP8000 Universal Programmer
The AP8000 is a high-speed programming platform designed for advanced AI power module applications, combining flexibility for development with stability for volume production.
The system supports high-speed dedicated interfaces and independent multi-channel parallel programming. Intelligent erase functions and multiple verification mechanisms improve programming efficiency and help verify programming results. The AP8000 supports continuous 24/7 operation and is compatible with mainstream power semiconductor devices, including devices from TI and Infineon.
It is suited to volume production of power devices used in data center and server applications. As device requirements evolve, the programming software can be updated to accommodate new device protocols and firmware requirements, helping reduce the need for equipment changes when new devices are introduced.
The AP8000 also incorporates industrial-grade interference protection, end-to-end process logging and traceability, detailed version management, and security functions for firmware and IP protection. Integration with MES-based production systems allows programming information and production records to be connected within the manufacturing process, supporting standardized volume manufacturing.

IPS5800S Automated Programming System
For high-volume manufacturing, the IPS5800S extends the core programming technology of the AP8000 into a fully automated programming system designed for production volumes in the million-unit range.
The system supports automated handling of multiple device forms, enabling programming with minimal manual intervention. Its independent multi-channel architecture allows individual channels to operate separately, helping prevent a fault on one channel from affecting the operation of the remaining programming channels.
A high-precision vision positioning system supports accurate device handling and pass/fail sorting. Modular quick-change fixtures allow the system to accommodate multiple mainstream device packages and support production requirements as product configurations evolve.
The IPS5800S also supports mainstream industrial communication protocols and can be integrated with automated production lines and MES systems. Production information can be collected and traced throughout the programming process, providing end-to-end visibility into programming and manufacturing records.
The IPS5800S also supports mainstream industrial communication protocols and can be integrated with automated production lines and MES systems. Production information can therefore be collected and traced throughout the programming process, providing greater visibility into manufacturing operations and supporting more controlled production management.

From Device Reliability to Production Consistency
AI servers and large-scale data centers place demanding requirements on the dynamic response, high- and low-temperature performance, and long-term stability of the power devices used in their power delivery systems, particularly under sustained high-load operation.
Device design, wafer fabrication, and comprehensive validation under representative operating conditions are closely interconnected, together forming the foundation for reliable power devices in advanced AI computing applications. These activities address different stages of the device lifecycle, from semiconductor development and manufacturing through electrical and operating-condition validation.
For AI power semiconductors, production programming is one part of this broader quality framework. Accurate programming and verification help ensure that the intended device data and configuration are consistently applied. Version management and production traceability provide control over the manufacturing process, while automation allows these controls to be maintained as production volumes increase.
As AI infrastructure continues to evolve, supply-chain reliability cannot be assessed solely through the performance and availability of GPUs and high-bandwidth memory. The power devices supporting these systems are also subject to increasingly demanding electrical and thermal requirements, making their production quality and manufacturing consistency important considerations for reliable AI infrastructure.
A mature production environment therefore needs more than capable power semiconductor designs. It also requires controlled programming, verification, testing, and manufacturing processes that can maintain consistency from engineering introduction through high-volume production.
